โ€ฆmore now than ever before! 

The last few weeks before End of Year, letโ€™s be honest can see us ๐—— ๐—ฅ ๐—” ๐—œ ๐—ก ๐—˜ ๐—— . Having just two or three weeks to unplug, often does not do the trick.

Naively optimistic sentences like โ€œ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ 3+ ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฌ๐˜ด ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ฌ ๐˜โ€™๐˜ญ๐˜ญ ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜จ๐˜ข๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐˜ฎ๐˜บ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ค๐˜ฆโ€ are not really cutting it. Because, despite the words, ๐˜„๐—ฒ ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—น ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ด๐˜‚๐—ฒ. ๐—˜๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜†. ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐—น๐—ฒ. ๐——๐—ฎ๐˜†. 

Lately there’s a name to this naive optimism: Toxic Positivity. 

So, what is going to get us going in a better mindset?? 

A useful strategy is to replace Toxic Positivity with  Realistic Optimism : a tool stemming from the 

Stockdale Paradox.

Stockdale was an American official who fell prisoner of war in Vietnam. He was held captive for 15years, before being freed again. 

In a very famous interview, he discussed:
   (question) โ€œWho didnโ€™t make it out?โ€
   (he answered) โ€œOh, thatโ€™s easy,โ€ he said. โ€œThe optimists. Oh, they were the ones who said, โ€˜Weโ€™re going to be out by Christmas.โ€™ And Christmas would come, and Christmas would go. Then theyโ€™d say, โ€˜Weโ€™re going to be out by Easter.โ€™ And Easter would come, and Easter would go. And then Thanksgiving, and then it would be Christmas again. And they died of a broken heart.โ€

 

 

 

 

Is it a matter of surrendering? Nope.
Is it a matter of changing words? Nope. 

It is a matter of working on the choices you have NOW!

   ๐ŸŸก Meanwhile, ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† [you still have a few deadlines and projects to face]
